Choose Your Sufferings
A friend who is single decide to live off his savings and retire at the age of 42. He does not have any assets. He lives in his sister's house. On the other hand, I started my business around the same time. Since then, we only meet up once a year.
I suffered through setbacks and failures to bring my business off the ground. Throughout the years, I thought he is having the time of his life. He has all the time in the world and answer to no one.
This year, we meet up again. He told me that he has a lot of issues and emotional baggage to unpack. He has gained weight, and his savings are running low. He would stay up until dawn watching TV and sleep until noon. He wakes up not knowing what to do.
Regardless of our choice in life, there is always a price to pay. The price of suffering. My friend chooses to retire early, and he suffers from boredom and financial hardship. I choose to pursue my dreams and suffers from stress and anxiety.
We cannot avoid sufferings; we can only choose our sufferings. Which suffering do you prefer?
