Living Kindfully

Do Things Quietly for Better Concentration

When my kids were babies, my wife always warned me to keep the noise level down so the kids can sleep better. I try my best to keep it down, when washing the milk bottles, opening or closing the drawers. During those days, I was totally immersing into my actions.

Since they have all grown up, I have abandoned such practice. Whatever that I am doing now, I would be thinking about something else. It is common to hear me ruffling through the cutlery drawers or plates clattering with each other when I do the dishes. The noise level in the house has definitely gone up. The dishes are not as clean as it used to be.

By proactively doing things quietly, outcomes of my actions are more effective and less mistakes. As I was concentrating and aware of my actions. This is definitely a good practice to develop again. To improve your concentration, try doing things quietly.
