Living Kindfully

Don't Let Negative Self Talk Destroy Your Life

I understand, you are your own worst critic. Me too. I drive myself harder than others drive me. I would yell at myself non-stop for mistakes and failures. Because I know I deserve all these self-punishments, and I should do better.

After years of self-punishment, I did not improve as much as I expected. All these negativities have become a self-filling prophecy. Would you strive to do better if someone keeps telling you that you are stupid? Or someone who encourages you to do better?

Tell a child that she is stupid, she will live up to you what you said. Tell a child that she can do better, and she will aim to do better. The same applies to how we talk to ourselves.

I know we want the best for ourselves. Instead of beating ourselves to submission, tell ourselves that we can always do better. There are always room for improvement, in both our thoughts and action.
