Living Kindfully

Feedback Hurts But Thats's What We Need

Every evening, I would have coffee with my business partner. We would talk about the day. Mostly we talk about my sale's progress. Even though we have been doing this discussion for years, the feedback is always tough.

Sales is an art; it involves a large spectrum of skill sets. Each sale and customers are different. Therefore, each sale strategy is always different from the last. My daily discussion is to make sure I am seeing the big picture and engaging the right strategy.

The feedback always comes hard and harsh. I wanted to give excuses, but I know my partner is pointing out something that I have missed. She is not always right but her perspective allows me to see a bigger picture of the situation.

Being told what to improve is a difficult pill to swallow. It forces us to admit that we are not as good as we think. If we missed the lesson, it will keep coming back until we get it. It is not easy. We should see it as growing pains. It is our ego that's feeling the pain. Ego says we are right. Ego says we are good enough. When the ego leaves, the growth will come.

Feedback helps us to calibrate our action. To go left, to go right, faster or slower. We all need feedback. That's how we reach out destination. Feedback may not be something that we want to hear, but it is what we all need.
