Feeling Trapped? Good! Time to Take Action
Every fourth Sunday of the month, I would volunteer my time at the community recycling centre. For three hours, I would carry heavy stuffs and separate items for recycling. The job was both dirty and smelly. I still had a good time as all the volunteers are passionate about recycling and the atmosphere is pleasant.
When I was still schooling, my mother would always warn me to study hard. If I fail at school, I will grow up working in a rubbish dump as no one will hire me. Now I am all grown up with a family, I still ended up working in a dump with no pay!
Different circumstances but leads me to the same location - a recycling centre. The later was by choice while the former is by lack of prospects. As such, we feel "trapped" is because there is no choice to leave. How do we feel less "trapped"? We must have the mindset and resources to walk away from it all.
If you feel trapped in a job, do you have the skills, savings and network to resign and still support your family? If you feel trapped in a relationship, do you have the courage to break it off? Perform an audit in your life, which part of your life feels trapped? Be honest with yourself, what will it take for you to walk away from it? Know what you lack and focus on acquiring it. When you have sufficient resources, you will also develop the courage to break free from your prison.
Life is too short to waste on being trapped. Take it as a sign that you deserve a better life. Take action and start working towards a life that you want to live.
