Living Kindfully

I am currently preparing for a professional certification program. Every three months, I must take an exam. Due to budget constrain, I have opted for the self-study program.

Without guidance and classmates, I am on my own. The only resource that I have is the textbook in PDF format. To prepare for the exams, I signed up for ChatGPT Plus. Here is how I use ChatGPT.

Prepare Study Guide

Load textbook file into ChatGPT and enter the following prompt.

"Read the file and create a study guide for chapter X"

X represents, the chapter number from the textbook. I ask ChatGPT to create a study guide by chapter is because this forces me to read each guide before moving to the next chapter.

Study each output and provide feedback to ChatGPT to refine the study guide. You can ask for clarifications or summaries. Each prompt generates different output. Thus, you must read each output carefully. Once you are happy with the output, you can ask ChatGPT to generate a Word document or PDF file.

Create Multiple Choice Questions

The examination format is multiple choice questions. I ask ChatGPT to generate mock questions. Here is the prompt.

"Starting from chapter X of the textbook, generate 1 MCQ with 5 options. Only 1 option is correct. After I answered the question. Explain each option why is either correct or wrong. Cover all topics within the chapter before moving to the next chapter"

ChatGPT will create a series of questions based on the chapter's topic. Answer each question carefully and read its feedback.

When ChatGPT informs you that it has covered all topics within the chapter. Run this prompt to double check.

"Cross check the topics inside the chapter and the questions that you asked. Did you miss any topics?"

ChatGPT will do a round of checking. Normally, it finds missed topics. It will ask you whether you want to test the missed topics.

If you want to repeat the topic that you got wrong. You can prompt it to test you again.

"Revisit the topics that I got wrong. Please generate another set of questions to test my understanding."

Answer as many questions as necessary until you understand the subject.

Test Your Knowledge While on the Move

If you are waiting for the elevator or in line and you have 2 spare minutes. Use the 2 minutes for revision. Fire up the ChatGPT app and locate the chat that you have loaded the PDF file. Run the following prompt to refresh ChatGPT's memory.

"Read the file that I have loaded earlier. Tell me what you understand about the file"

This prompt forces ChatGPT to read the file once more. The prompt reduces the chance of hallucination and answers your next prompts based on the file. When you are ready, run this prompt.

"Generate a random MCQ question from the file that you have read. 5 options with only 1 option that is correct. After I have answered, explain each options."

If testing yourself is not your thing. You can ask ChatGPT to give you quick revision topics.

"Read the file that I have loaded earlier. Give me a random section from the file for revision purposes."

I am still a beginner in using ChatGPT. I am sure there are many more creative ways to use this tool. I will update this guide on a regular basis. If you have other tips or guide, you can share with me in the Contact Me page.

NOTE:

Familiarise yourself with the textbook relying on ChatGPT. Sometimes, ChatGPT hallucinates and give you incorrect information. If you just rely on ChatGPT, you may misunderstand the syllabus.
