I Tell my Kids to Stop Listening to Me
Both of my kids are now in colleges. I told them that they have to stop listening to me. When they were younger, I can provide advice and give guidance. They are now entering their own world, it is a world that I am not familiar. Therefore, they cannot listen to me anymore. They have to listen to their own instinct and create their own path.
We can still discuss anything, they make the final decision. At the end, they have take ownership of the outcome. As a parent, I cannot stay on their side forever and I cannot decide everything for them.
They have to make their own decisions, here are some questions they can reflect before deciding.
- Is this legal?
- Does this aligned with your dream and ambition?
- Will you be proud to share with the news with the family?
- Does it excite you?
- Does it challenge you?
- Can you stop and make a U-turn?
- Will you regret it?
- Can you learn from this experience?
- What is the worst case scenario?
- What is the best case scenario?
- What are the risk?
- How can you manage the risk?
