Living Kindfully

Judge by Effort Not Outcome

A few years ago, my son told me that he was failing at school. He was afraid to tell me because I might be disappointed and angry. I admitted that I am disappointed, but I am not angry. As I know he puts in effort into his study. I was more concern on how he studies.

I value effort more than outcome. We can do everything right and things can still go wrong. Through right effort and right task, we can increase the chances of a good outcome.

Through some discussion, we found out that his studying method is not efficient. My son did not ask for help from both teachers and his friends. He studied alone and his attention was scattered. Through some encouragement and time management, he managed improve and passed all his exams.

The same applies to life; by doing the right things with the right effort, we increase the odds for success. Always check-in on yourself.

right task X right effort = high probability of success
