Living Kindfully

One Sentence That Got Me Out of A Fight

I was walking on the main street and an old BMW caught my attention. I was checking out the car as I walked. Someone shouted at me.

"Yo! Old man. Why are you staring at my girl?"

There was a group of teenagers standing next to the car, I did not notice their presence until someone shouted at me. I did know whether the person was referring to the car or the girl standing next to him.

"That's an amazing car. And you are a lucky man to have such a beautiful girlfriend". I quicken my pace and walk into the crowd. As I gently nudged myself into the crowd, I overheard the girl answered, "He is not my boyfriend." And the group broke into laughter.

To defuse a situation, the best method is to give a specific compliment. I hedge my bet by praising the car and the people around him. Complimenting the girl gets her on my side. If he wants to cause any trouble, it is unlikely that the girl would allow him. Nevertheless, I did not want to stay long enough to find out.

Compliment and kind words can go a long way. You do no need to lie but you can exaggerate a little.

Note:The old BMW was a silver colour 5 Series, model number E39.
