Remember the Promise You Made to Yourself
After 3 days of working in the commercial shooting project, my son wanted to quit. He said he does not like to usher people around and the working hour is very long. The last few days, he has been clocking 12 hours day.
I do not mind him not liking what he does and want to quit the industry. The shooting schedule is about 11 days in total. Majority of the days are coordination work and ushering the crew to locations. I express my disapproval of him wanting to quit now. When he signed up for the job, he has made a promise to himself and the producers that he will be part of the crew until completion.
If he breaks his own promises and could not tough out the 11 days, he will have a hard time in the future. Resilience is only built through hard work and sufferings. All bad things will end. From a life's perspective, 11 days of miserable hard work is insignificant. But he will gain new respect and insight towards himself.
What I want him to learn is to keep the promises he made to others and to himself. When the shooting finishes, he can look back and tell himself that I have done it.
