Living Kindfully

Respect Your Work

I worked late to prepare for a project tender. Once more, I was working way longer than I should. As I fiddle with the glue and the envelope, I left fingerprints all over the tender envelope. I sealed the envelope and continue with my emails.

As I was going through emails, I cannot stop looking at the envelope that is peppered with my fingerprints. There is this nagging voice, telling me that I should respect my work. Eventually, I could not stand my inner voice. I throw away the old envelope and prepared another clean envelope for the submission.

I do not know whether a clean envelope would improve my chances of winning the project. Nevertheless, a dirty envelope might set the impression that I am not proud of my work. The late Steve Jobs put a lot of emphasis in aesthetics. That's why Apple products are beautiful. This is philosophy that I should adopt.

I have to respect my work. If I do not respect what I do, others will not respect my work as well.
