Your First Draft Sucks, Accept It

Regardless whether you are an expert or amateur who do creative work. The first draft always sucks. The first draft is like a baby step where we would fumble towards the destination.

The first draft is a glimpse of our thoughts. It is not necessary clear and precise. We have to keep polishing it until it is precise and reflect our vision.

The first draft is always the most difficult. It takes the most courage to face the blank canvas. It is also heart wrenching because it is ugly. When the first draft is ready, we look at it and we cannot stop beating ourselves over it.

In this blog, I have many unpublished and unpolished first drafts. These first drafts pave way for other work. These unpublished drafts tells me that my thoughts are not clear and precise. I need to figure it out.

Do not be afraid of the first draft. The first draft is mostly terrible. But there are many treasures buried in it. Take your time to reflect and revise. A treasure may emerge.
