Be Grateful to Your Critics
I am currently in Shanghai, China. It is a beautiful city filled with culture and good food. My impresses me the most is the quietness of the main road. The roads are filled with cars, but it is not as loud as other cities in other countries. In Shanghai, most of the vehicles on the road are EVs. These vehicles generate very little noise, therefore the roads are quieter.
For more than 10 years, my impression towards China is never good. I heard about the bad air quality, noise pollution etc. My local contact explained that my impression is correct. The city and other parts of China received heavy criticism over pollution and over reliance on burning fossil fuel. Throughout the years, the government took active initiative to reduce reliance on fossil fuel. By going EV, the city is cleaner and quieter.
This is a profound story. Whatever we do, we will get criticism. We can either ignore the criticism or lean into it. By leaning into it, we sometimes can reach an unexpected level. And, we have to be grateful to those who criticise us. Without the criticism, we would not have taken the initiative to make a difference.
There is no need to argue or debate with your critics. If they are wrong, you can ignore them. If they are right, thank them by taking action to address your shortfall. Reach a level where they have nothing more to say but find another point to criticise you.
