Living Kindfully

Death of a Mother, The Hero who Brought up Five Kids

This morning I received news that friend's mother has passed away. She was in her late eighties. Since the beginning of this year, she has been going in and out of hospital. In a way, her passing is a relief to her and the family.

In my opinion, this lady is an unsung hero. She had five children from an abusive husband. The late husband was a petty crime thieve. He was more interested in fishing than taking care of the family. To feed the family, this lady ran a food stall in a wet market. All five children helped at the stall.

This lady endured the husband's shouting and beating for years. When the elder four kids are working, they secretly pooled their money to rent a home. When the husband was away, they moved the whole family to the newly rented home. Given the four kids are already working, they are able to help the mother and the youngest brother's education. The late husband tried to locate them but was unsuccessful.

A few years later, the abusive husband died in his home causes unknown. It was the neighbour who found the body. Sadly, the lady only enjoyed a few years of her hard-earned freedom. She suffered a stroke and was bedridden. The five kids had no choice but to put her in a nursing home. She lived there until her passing.

This lady was a hero. She managed to bring up five kids; all are successful in their own way. None of them resorted to the criminal way of their late father. She had worked hard all her life but only enjoy a fraction of peace and tranquillity.

I pray that she is in a better place now.
