Living Kindfully

Do What Others Refuse to Do

Today is the first day of lunar new year. Since 2019, I have the habit of jogging from my home to the temple for prayers. Round trip is about 8.8km. I take pride in having this practice. Reason is that the temple is always crowded and difficult to get parking. By jogging to the temple, I do not have to worry about parking and traffic.

It has been raining since last night, I was tempted to cancel my run as the running condition was not perfect. As I look out from my window, I told myself that this run is more important than other runs. It is easy to run when the weather is perfect. The real test comes when condition is not ideal. By going out for the run is a message to myself that I will do whatever that's necessary to achieve my goals regardless of the condition.

We have given ourselves many excuses not to do something that are difficult. These are lies that are sugar coated by truth. Whatever reasons or excuses that we give, it is legit and genuine. We tell ourselves, there is no shame in delaying the action. As time passes, we realised that it is already too late; we could have start earlier and achieve our goals faster.

If you have promised yourself a goal, make sure you don't break that promise. Start today, start immediately. The condition to start is never ideal, but you just need to take the first step.
