Living Kindfully

Every Meeting could be Our Last Goodbye

I will be traveling overseas to visit a particular city. I did not plan this trip, as there were some urgent matters that I need to make the trip. Given that my relatives are also in that city, I be visiting them. Both my auntie and uncle who are in their 90s are staying in that city. Thus, visiting them is a must.

As I am preparing my trip, I realised that I have not been to that city for more than 30 years. I cannot even remember when I last saw my relatives. After I have resolved my issue, I doubt I will ever go back there again. I wonder now whether this could be my last meeting with them?

How can I make the trip memorable? How can I not cry as I say my goodbye to them? As I ponder these questions, I realised that death and separation is not limited to old people. This year I lost a good friend due to heart attack. Our last goodbye was in February; he died in May.

Every goodbye could be our last. Whenever you meet someone, always remind yourself, this could be our last meeting.
