How Sleeping Early has Forced me to Prioritise my Life
The last few weeks, I have been going to bed before 12 mid night. It is a big change as I usually go to bed between 1230 and 1 in the morning. Currently, I am trying to prioritise my healthy by sleeping more and sleeping better.
The first 1.5 weeks of this experiment was miserable. I always could not find time to complete my tasks. I already have a hard stop at 11pm where I would stop all work and begin to wind down. My winding down routine would be reading, writing or studying. By sleeping earlier, I have lesser time for myself.
By having an earlier bedtime, I was forced to prioritise my life. I have pretty much stopped all doom scrolling on social media and news outlet. I have also stopped checking my phone when I got up. Instead, I would perform my daily non-negotiable task such as walk 10,000 steps, learning French and preparing for the coming insurance certification exams. I still keep a long checklist, but I would also schedule time on the most important tasks.
In a nutshell, by allocating lesser time for myself has forced me to prioritise my life. This is an unexpected outcome. It is true that sometimes a little bit of restriction help us to stay focused on what's important.
