Living Kindfully

Human is Scarier Than Ghost

This month is the Hungry Ghost festival. The elderly would warn us not to go out late at night and be careful of ghost who lingers in the earth realm. I am afraid of ghost, but I am more afraid of human beings. Ghost may frighten us, but human can harm us.

A friend called me and asked whether he can get a medical insurance cover for his 73 years old father. I told him that it is too late, insurance company will not cover his father. He explained that his father had a medical card, but the agent never banks in his father's insurance premium to the insurance company. The medical card got cancelled and the agent pocketed all the premiums. My friend who is a mechanic now has to work as a delivery driver to pay for his father's medical fees.

My friend's experience is a typical insurance agent fraud story. Insurance is a form of safety net for a person during times of need. These fraudsters took away both the money and the sense of hope of their clients. To me these are the worst kind of human beings.

I am not a superstitious person, but I sincerely hope there is a heaven and hell realm. Hell should have a special place reserve for such individuals who causes harm and taken away hope of the desperate.
