Living Kindfully

Jogging without A Headset

Lately I have been experimenting with night runs without listening to anything. Whenever I exercise, I would listen to podcast. The subjects are mostly about self-improvements or history. Now I exercise without wearing headset.

Someone told me that exercising while listening to podcast, my brain is not relaxed. I am not giving my brain a chance to digest all the bombardments that I did to it. Instead, I am force feeding my brain with all kinds of knowledge. I should let it run free, let my thoughts roam free. I did not fully understand what she was telling but I am willing to try something new.

During my first run without listening to anything, the first 5 minutes was hell on earth. Time slowed down and I hate my thoughts. The thoughts were all over the place. I was thinking that it is a stupid idea, there are many things that I need to do or follow up, I am falling behind, writing topics for this blog etc. As I busy avoiding my thoughts, I actually complete my run sooner than I thought. In fact, I cannot even remember most of my thoughts that bothered me during the start of the run. As I reflect further, all I remembered was hearing my breathing.

I am still in the early stage of this new way to exercise. It is difficult to explain how I feel. The first few minutes is always difficult. Once I got into the momentum, time flies and the workout is less taxing. Has this new practise brought any benefit to my life? Not for now, but I do feel good after each workout.
