Living Kindfully

Update: 20th December 2025

I am a huge fan of James Cameron. I enjoy his movies. His passion in movie making is contagious. He pushes the boundaries of film making, and many of his movies has something new or exciting to watch.

Here are some thoughts that I have taken reading a book about him called - "The Futurist: The Life and Films of James Cameron". These are the lessons that I can deploy as an aspiring entrepreneur.

  1. Mastery

James Cameron out-worked and out-learned everyone — camera systems, VFX, engineering, diving physics, script structure. He earned authority through competence.

His mastery in film making and engineering gave me the courage and motivation to pursue the certification of AMII Level 2. My knowledge has to be better than most insurers and claim adjusters.

  1. Vision First. Tools Catch Up Later.

The movie Avatar was imagined years before the technology existed. James Cameron waited, funded R&D, and even invented tools to execute the vision.

I aim to be the best in the market by running a lean efficient team. I will eliminate all unnecessary processes and automate the routine ones. Whenever I can, I read and deploy tools that can help with my business.

  1. Extreme Ownership

On set, James Cameron accepted full responsibility — delays, overruns, technical failures. He did not hide behind departments.

I own all my mistakes; there is no one else to blame but myself.

  1. Long-Term Patience Beats Short-Term Wins

After Titanic, James Cameron disappeared from feature films for years. He explored oceans, built tech, learned new sciences — then returned with Avatar.

My pursue for Fellowship of Asian Institute of Insurance will last until 2030. As of writing, I am tempted to quit many times. The goal feels so far away and there is no immediate impact on my business. James Cameron's dedication to film making inspires me to stay on the path.

  1. Build Moats, Not Just Products

James Cameron did not just make movies. He built:

I am automating all my internal processes. I review my processes monthly and adjust it accordingly. I try to give the best support to my clients and built as much gap as possible away from competitors.

  1. Endurance Is a Competitive Advantage

James Cameron is known for:

Whenever I want to quit or procrastinate, I think of James Cameron.
