Living Kindfully

Never Use Charity Work as a Crutch for Not Working

I am a big believer in volunteering and charity work. It opens up opportunities and a good training ground to develop new skills. In fact, I have made friends who are sincere with a good heart. Through volunteering, the experience reminds me that I am blessed and lucky. I would encourage anyone who feels lost and frustrated to do volunteering work.

Volunteering work cannot be a crutch, and it cannot be an excuse to avoid doing what's important in your life. My friend A is a perfect example of avoiding what's important and keep volunteering in charity events. He got fired in his last job; it was his 4th job in 5 years. I encourage him to get himself certified, actively look for a job and post on LinkedIn. He did none of it and kept asking me to attend charity events that he is volunteering.

Maybe I am wrong about him, volunteering is his life's priority. He is living the life that he wants.

There are certain reasons that is so tight that no one dares to challenge it. By accepting that reasons, it becomes a crutch for not doing what's important. There is no alarm bell warning us that we are not doing what's important. When we finally wake up from our slumber, it could be too late. Then, we blame both heaven and earth that we are not being rewarded for our efforts. I know because I am one of these people, I rather blame the whole world than myself.

Life gives us many perfect reasons for not focusing on what's important. Do not accept those reasons. Embrace the suffering and do what's important for your goals.
