Living Kindfully

Selectively Naive

The 2026 Iran war has gone into the 3rd week. I have stopped reading the news for a few weeks. I used to have "No News Monday" where I avoid news every Monday. Now, I have totally stopped catching up on news.

I do not miss the news at all, but I also have probably missed some important news. For example, petrol prices going up and share market tanking. I only knew about this news while catching up with family and friends.

At this point of my life, I choose to be selectively naive. Being ignorant over certain news, it frees up my time and mental bandwidth. I do not engage in pointless debate over politics and distorted histories. Instead of debating, I allow the other person to tell me their perspective. By allowing the other person to speak, I just need to listen and nod. This disarms anyone who are combative, who are just spoiling for a good argument. I am too tired and too busy for such activities. Most of the time, I choose to have no opinion because I do not know enough to form any thoughts about the topic.

By keeping an open mind, this allows me to see the world as it is. I do not need to agree to anyone's argument, but I am willing to give them a chance to convince me with facts.

We are in a world with abundant information but very little peace. That's why I choose to be selectively naive and being at peace with my mind.
