Wasting Time By Learning
Someone asked for my advice about learning an AI course by Google. This is a good course, and I would recommend to everyone who are still in the work force.
However, I do not recommend the course to him. He should develop skills in Excel and negotiations. To be immediately effective in his job, he needs to improve both skills. He is aware of his knowledge gap, but he rather chooses the latest shiny skills than the ones that has immediate impact to his career.
To everyone who wants to develop their skills in the new year. My advice is to stop wasting time in developing skills that are not immediately useful. Focus on the skills that gives maximum return with the minimum learning time.
Long term learning is as important. Choose a skill that is timeless and useful across different industry. Skills such as communication, data analytics fall under this category. Thus, you should schedule time for long-term learning as well.
In this new year, do not waste time on learning skills that are not immediately useful. Dedicate 80% of your learning time on skills that you need urgently. Dedicate the final 20% of your learning time on skills that need in the long run. Remember, these skills should align with your goals and dreams.
